Nordseeinsel Juist
Worth a visit at any time: The island of Juist lies between Borkum and Norderney as the "second from the left" in the string of pearls of the East Frisian islands. The North Sea island is car-free and boasts horse-drawn carriages that serve as cabs, suppliers and attractions.
Only 17 km long and (depending on the prevailing tide) between 500 and 900 m wide, Juist is a true paradise for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. Exciting events attract visitors in the evenings, while there is plenty to do during the day with a wide range of beach sports and children's entertainment.
Extended beach walks on the wide, almost completely unspoilt beach attract numerous guests. But the beach is never crowded!
Juist is tide-dependent: you can only arrive by ferry or water cab when the water level is high enough and the island is only approached by island planes (from the north) during the day when visibility is good enough. This means that day trips are rarely possible on Juist, so that the island almost never feels overcrowded or full. A real haven of peace!
In addition to the largest freshwater lake of the East Frisian Islands, the Hammersee, Juist delights its guests with:
- the huge dune landscape
- the traditional village full of houses made of red clinker bricks
- the idyllic Januspark
- the true sandy deserts that seem like an alien landscape, the Kalfamer and the Bill - the eastern and western ends of the elongated island
- the Otto Leege Trail
- the mystical forest with its deer
- the fascinating national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site Wadden Sea
