Port
After the island railway and the jetty far out on the tidal flats showed increasing signs of wear and tear and caused ever greater maintenance costs, the decision was made to create a harbour close to the town.
Here are some historical facts about Juist harbour for you:
- In80, the first construction work began.
- In82, the old island railway made its last journey, after which the old jetty on the tidal flats was dismantled.
- In 1984, after the harbour operations building was also finished, the new structure could be handed over to its intended purpose.
- In the adjacent area, a waste disposal plant and a central storage building for various Juist entrepreneurs were subsequently built.
- From 2007 to 2008, the harbour was extended by the construction of the eastern breakwater (pier) to today's sports boat mooring.
