Bee hive
Do you know anything about bees?
Even if the answer is a passionate "Yes!", you might still learn a thing or two.
Imkers from all over Germany bring their queens and small colonies to Juist on the island in summer, as they can mate and reproduce with strong colonies here. Sounds strange, but it's true! So if you see someone in a carriage coming from the airfield, but the person seems to be travelling in the middle of nowhere, clutching a small chest like the greatest treasure on earth ... then ask nicely if the bees are here to reproduce.
On the airfield road, a little way east from Wilhelmshöhe, you will also come across a sign saying "Belegstelle". You can take a look there. Follow the small path to an information board. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to enter the grounds of the apiary, but you can watch the bees at work through the fence. Even from Wilhelmshöhe (if you look in the direction of the shooting range), you can see the lovingly colourful little houses in the middle of the dunes.
It's a super exciting story, really! You can find all the info here on our blog.
